The Starborn

This information is still a work in progress, so it may be rough.

Let me tell you a story about the creatures in the sky.

The Starborn are rare, celestial beings whose forms are not easily understood by those who encounter them. Some appear as vast shadows, stretching across the sky like incomprehensible arms, their reaches so far that even the stars seem to dissolve within their grasp. Others are young, their galaxies still in the process of formation, compact and contained, though their potential is vast.

The lore surrounding the Starborn states that they are born in the heart of stellar nurseries, the incredible process where stars are formed, a rare and wondrous twist of fate within an already complex cosmic phenomenon. While the birth of stars is a common occurrence across the universe, the birth of a Starborn is an anomaly—a one-in-a-million event.

These beings are born with a galaxy at their core, an ever-expanding, dynamic celestial body that reflects their very essence. At first, their galaxies are small, contained, and nascent, but as they age, their ability to retain gravitational force weakens, causing their galaxy to slowly fragment and spread. The Starborn are powered by the cycles of life and death that occur within their galaxy: the birth and destruction of stars, the rise and fall of civilizations, the ebb and flow of cosmic energy. They draw sustenance from the lives that flicker and perish within their domain, feeding on the vibrant chaos that is the nature of the universe.

Due to their rarity, the Starborn are scattered across the vast expanse of space and time, and only a handful of them can exist at any given moment. Their lives span incomprehensible eons, outlasting the life cycles of most species that may inhabit the worlds within their orbit. When a Starborn dies, their passing is not simply an end, but a catalyst for creation—new stars are born, and the remnants of their existence continue to influence the life they carried within them.

Sylenvie, for example, is one such Starborn. She will live longer than most can fathom, her existence stretching beyond the comprehension of mortal time. By the time she fades from existence, the civilizations that once flourished under her light will have vanished, leaving only memories and the echoes of their lives scattered across the stars.

The Starborn can condense and expand their forms at will, altering their size without affecting the space around them—except for one key feature: the brighter their eyes become as they shrink, the more dangerous their presence. Should a Starborn reduce themselves to the size of a mortal being, their eyes would burn with the intensity of a thousand suns, capable of blinding and incinerating anything that crosses their path, unless they release part of their form to temper the overwhelming radiance.

Some say that when a comet streaks across the sky, it is a Starborn—one of these timeless travelers—gliding through the vast expanse, observing the galaxies, the systems, and the fleeting lives within them. The truth of their nature remains a mystery, but their presence is a constant reminder of the cosmos' unfathomable complexity.
